    Obermeyer Athlete Kiffor Berg is headed to Alaska

    Obermeyer Freeskiing Athlete Kiffor Berg loves funny t-shirts.  Maybe it is because he loves to laugh.  Today he is wearing one with a hang loose hand gesture and the words “Dude Bra” on it.  It loosely pokes fun at a culture within which he is immersed – the action sports culture.  Kiffor has lived the action sports lifestyle in Aspen, Colorado for the past eleven years and has loved every moment of it.

    Tomorrow he heads to Valdez, Alaska, often called the mecca of big mountain skiing, he will be speeding down huge faces and dropping in on big lines that will most definitely fulfill his adrenaline needs.  Photographer Tom Zuccareno will be documenting the whole thing for one of the top magazines in Europe.  He will of course capture Kiffor skiing in the scenic beauty of Alaska, but just know what he may not capture is the smiles and laughter of Kiffor at the bottom of these lines that could in fact be the highlight of the whole trip.

      Best of luck to Kiffor in Alaska. Post some pictures if you get any. i missed a trip to alaska with the family 5 years ago.

As an Aspen ski instructor, he became aware of the need to keep his ski school students warm and dry so they would enjoy the sport of skiing and become repeat customers. Klaus Obermeyer, as ski pioneer  learned environmental stewardship at a young age respecting the alpine environment and its majestic beauty. Today, Obermeyer continues to design and produce innovative and technically responsible authentic skiwear from the heart of the Rocky mountains.

    To watch Klaus ski is to witness his true love of the sport. It all began in 1919, in Oberstaufen, Germany, the small Bavarian alpine village in which Klaus was born. There, his passion began at the early age of three. In 1947, Klaus arrived in Aspen, Colorado, where he followed his entrepreneurial spirit. Sensing that people would spend more time on the slopes if they had great looking ski clothes that kept them warm, dry, and comfortable. He set up shop, the original Sport Obermeyer, in the attic of his home. There, one of the first of countless innovations was born in the form of a down ski parka stitched together from his goose down comforter. Innovations continue to motivate Klaus and the company he started — his enthusiasm is contagious, his energy seemingly endless, and his optimism boundless.
