Old Man Winter is back, well-rested, and ready to play. Highlands Bowl seemed steeper and deeper than usual, face shots and what felt like 10 inches on Friday; Snowmass, in top form from the Wall to Burnt Mountain, to some of the finer turns of the day on Baby Ruth. Back in town and on the hill, hoots and hollers rang loud and clear, down cascading slopes of Ajax. A good time, indeed, with more on the way…

It was a depressing day at the office in the heart of the mountains: I tore my LBD. So, I shared my sorrow on my face book status and my fb friends commented: ‘feel for you girl, I tore my ACL, twice..out for the season’ and ‘ooh ouch, where’s the LBD muscle?’. I had assumed anyone who knew me would also know the fashion abbreviations. LBD is the little black dress that any fashionista can wear anytime, anywhere, even three days and nights in a row, just accessorized for each situation. It is the muscle of the wardrobe. OMG: idea. LBJ little black jacket. Just like any good rider, a LBJ can ride any condition, any mountain, any time. It keeps you warm and dry on powder days, breathes on a sunny spring day, and fits like a glove. Mine is our Aston Shell. I’ll X-ccessorize it for multiple mountains throughout the season. Stay tuned to see me make it work.

While celebrating NYC’s Fashions Night Out at Barneys, I picked up the knitting needles again, and now Monday nights are for football and knitting. What to knit is really the question. I’m reminded of my passion for snowboarding in the beginning when I would do anything for a season pass, including sitting 120 hours every fall in a grocery store selling Vail season passes. To pass the time, I knitted beanies for myself and all my friends. Finally, winter arrived, the snow packed, and we’d earned our passes and had a hat for every day of riding! Ten minutes on the hill in those hats, my poor, bald boyfriend and I quickly discovered that hand knit hats sucked…the snow stuck, the yarn froze, and the wind whipped right through the hand stiches to the scalp. Just like the time we tried to build a quarter pipe in the yard, I’ve learned some things are just not meant to be done at home. Buy a hat.
