Obermeyer’s Carbon Footprint Reduced 5,750 lbs

For over 3 years, Sport Obermeyer has teamed with the City of Aspen as part of their Transportation Options Program, or “TOPS”. As part of this program, employees are encouraged to find alternative transportation methods for their commutes to and from work. At the end of each season, employees are given cash rewards based upon how much they were able to reduce their carbon footprint; by carpooling, biking, walking or taking the bus to work.

Since November, Obermeyer employee commutes were comprised of more than 900 miles of bussing, over 2,000 miles of biking, 90 miles of walking and more than 7,800 miles of carpooling. All-together this reduced emissions by more than 5,750 pounds of carbon. While this is impressive it its’ own right, for the summer season the employees have set a goal to reduce their footprint by an additional 20% – hoping to reduce 7,000 pounds of carbon emissions. Obermeyer Athlete Kiffor Berg is headed to Alaska

Obermeyer Freeskiing Athlete Kiffor Berg loves funny t-shirts. Maybe it is because he loves to laugh. Today he is wearing one with a hang loose hand gesture and the words “Dude Bra” on it. It loosely pokes fun at a culture within which he is immersed – the action sports culture. Kiffor has lived the action sports lifestyle in Aspen, Colorado for the past eleven years and has loved every moment of it.

Tomorrow he heads to Valdez, Alaska, often called the mecca of big mountain skiing, he will be speeding down huge faces and dropping in on big lines that will most definitely fulfill his adrenaline needs. Photographer Tom Zuccareno will be documenting the whole thing for one of the top magazines in Europe. He will of course capture Kiffor skiing in the scenic beauty of Alaska, but just know what he may not capture is the smiles and laughter of Kiffor at the bottom of these lines that could in fact be the highlight of the whole trip.

Snowstorm Blankets the Rockies

We are being blessed in the Western united states with cold weather and lots of snow to cap off our spring skiing! Should be fantastic! 7 inches last night and whiteout conditions now in Aspen.
